School desks have developed over the last century and a half from the wood and metal antique ones that you some times see in museums to ones made of sleek steel tubing and laminated plastic. I experienced both types in my own schooling from a one room rural schoolhouse to a modern high school.
In early years, each desk had an black ornate cast iron frame and a wooden desktop. Often carrying names and graffiti from past occupants, the sloped hardwood top had a groove for pencils and on the right, a circular hole to hold the ink bottle.
Beneath the writing top was a storage space to hold books, scribblers, crayons and other belongings. Attached to the front of the desk was a wooden bench seat and back. As the units were placed in rows, a student sat on the bench seat of one section and worked at the table of the one in front.
Designed in the late 1800’s by Anna Breadin, these elaborate looking desks were actually quite an innovation for their time. Before this invention, schools used rustic wood ones, or the students sat at long tables with either attached bench seating or chairs to sit on. No provision was made to store or hold student supplies

For an environmentally friendly fence, using bamboo fencing is the best choice you can make. But what makes it even better is that bamboo is both durable and unique. When you put these two things together, you really have the best possible fencing alternative.
Environmentally, there is a lot to like about using bamboo. For one thing, bamboo is not wood, but is a kind of grass that grows quickly to maturity. Bamboo can be ready to use in 5 to 7 years, with growing and harvesting having little impact on the environment. Trees, on the other hand, take over 50 years before they are really large enough to use for wood products.
But despite the fact that it is ready to use in such a short period of time, it is quite strong and durable. At the same time, it flat out looks great. And if properly maintained it will last for years as a fencing material.
You just can’t compare the unique beauty of a fence constructed with bamboo, to one made of chain link or even to many wooden or vinyl fences. No two pieces are exactly the same, adding to its distinctive appearance. Bamboo can even be used to enhance the appearance of an existing fence by providing an accent, rather than tearing down and rebuilding.

People living in block houses have a great deal of benefits. These structures have an exterior made of concrete block. The interior can be like any other home. This is also true of the roof. There are many good reasons to look at these types of homes. Here are just a few. In german block houses are known as Schwedenhaus Blockbau.
Three pigs
Then there is the story of three little pigs. One makes his home out of straw. Another decides to use a wooden material like sticks. The third one is the smart one. He uses good material like brick or concrete. When the evil wolf comes knocking, only the solid house survives. In nasty weather, you will be safe.
Perhaps you reside in an area that gets bad storms like hurricanes. There will be times when people will need to evacuate their homes. You can stay safe and dry, unless there is a threat of flooding. Cover your windows and ride it out.
Pests
Most pests are not fond of concrete. They cannot eat it nor can they bore into it. Do you live in a warmer climate? You may have to deal with insects, all during the year. There is also the chance of small animals like rodents. They will have to go somewhere else.

Sash windows are beautifully decorative windows that are made from movable panels or frames that have glass insets and can be opened horizontally or vertically. The weights used for moving the panels are concealed in a box called a Yorkshire light and the first dateable reference of this type of window can be found in the 1658 painting of The Milkmaid, by the Dutch artist Vermeer.
Ham House in England, which was built in 1670, is the earliest existing example of sash windows. The traditional style for any sash window in those days consisted of two horizontal panes of glass and three vertical panes of glass set into a soft wood frame, depicting a rather classic rectangular shape. Different variations have been used over the centuries.
The typical standard for sash windows in early Georgian and Victorian houses measured about four feet in width and they can be opened vertically as the window slides on two runners set into the frame of the window.
Metal weatherstripping was added to ensure that the window remained in its frame regardless of external weather conditions. The inserted weight was constructed of lead or steel and was perfectly balanced for easy raising and closing of any sliding sash frame. Two types of sash frames came into existence.

People are spending more money and more time investing in outdoor rooms where they can hang out and relax either with company present or without it. The best course of action is to invest in outdoor furniture that was made to last for years and you will want it to be comfortable as well as durable.
You might think that since redwoods are an endangered tree species they should not be used to make furniture or anything else, but actually some redwood trees are cultivated very carefully and when the forests are maintained, it is sometimes necessary to remove some trees in order to sustain others. These trees are what most outdoor redwood furniture is made from. No other type of wood holds up in the elements outdoors quite like redwood so it makes perfect furniture for outside.

Of course, log furniture got it beginnings in the early pioneer days when there was likely a shortage of fine craftsmen that made the furniture like what was often brought over from Europe. Some American settlers were lucky enough or rich enough to be able to bring over furniture and other belongings they had over there, but many settlers arrived with nothing or little more than the clothing on their backs. They built their homes, their furniture, barns and fences out of the timber that was all around them.
It just was not possible for most settlers to have access to or be able to afford to buy furniture from the townships where the finer furniture craftsmen had their shops, so out of necessity, many settlers simply learned to build their own rustic furniture from logs. Over time they perfected this particular craft and hand made any furniture items they needed. Eventually log furniture became very common among settlers and evolved over time.
